Luke's stock rising after ATA accreditation joy
12th August 2011
A West Sussex fast fitter has put in a typically speedy shift to earn a prestigious automotive qualification and become one of the most talented mechanics in the county.
Luke Berry, a technician at HiQ in Burgess Hill, earned his Automotive Technician Accreditation award, positioning himself as one of the most qualified mechanics in the process.
The 30 year-old from Blackboys is a title winning Formula 2 Stock Car driver in his spare time, so it came as no surprise to anyone at the HiQ fast fit network to learn he had gained his fast fit technician accreditation in a rapid time of just one day - only one of 65 across the UK to do so.
Luke said: "I have been a fast fit technician at HiQ for 10 years now, so to become ATA accredited is something of an anniversary achievement for me.
"I'd like to say that my stock car racing experience helped gave me the edge during the training, but it was more to do with a theory based module and practical assessments specific to my daily job."
The ATA is a voluntary competency based assessment to ensure technicians carry out their work in the correct manner.
Successful candidates are required to sign and abide by a code of conduct and their details listed on the ATA website.
The website then allows the consumer to locate a garage employing registered technicians, giving them piece of mind that the work will be carried out correctly.
HiQ Fast Fit Manager Stuart Carr said: ""Luke can now look forward to a great deal of success - both on and off the track.
"To gain his ATA accreditation is no mean feat, with only 65 fast fit technicians across the UK able to boast this achievement.
"HiQ has made a promise to get every one of our 700 technicians accredited by the end of 2012 but with talented technicians like Luke leading the way, I am confident we are well on track to achieve this.
"We are committed to training our technicians to the highest level, and we use the ATA assessment programme to verify the work carried out through the HiQ academy."
