Heatwave: Is your car's air conditioning safe?

26th June 2018

The weather is expected to improve and temperatures are expected to soar with a small heatwave expected to arrive in the UK. A lot of drivers are checking their air conditioning ahead of the heatwave as it could cause health problems if you haven’t checked your air conditioning system in your car in a while.

If you don’t know about the Air conditioning system in your car, it basically contains a compressor which contains a refrigerant gas.

When your Air conditioning system is switched on, the system will get the air from outside which will mix with the gas and then after it goes through the system, the cool air will then go through a filter and then go into the car cabin.

If you smell any unusual smell coming from your aircon system, you should get it checked as soon as you can as this could be harmful for your health and the health of your passengers.

This is because after a while your aircon system can get clogged with dirt and bacteria coming from the air outside that goes through the system. For this reason, especially before long trips or family vacations and trips, make sure to pop in your local HiQ centre for an aircon check to make sure that your aircon system is not clogged in any way.

Once you have your air conditioning make sure you:

  1. Avoid opening the windows while your aircon is on to make the most of it;
  2. Recharge your aircon regularly, check on your vehicle handbook to see how often you should recharge your aircon to avoid clogs;
  3. Try to beware of your aircon smell, this potentially means that you have dust, dirt and bacteria, which can hurt your wellbeing.

If you are still unsure, feel free to call your nearest HiQ centre to ask for tips and advice.
