Darcy dynasty shines through a HiQ beacon
15th October 2015
When Mr and Mrs Darcy opened their first garage in 1971, they couldn't have dreamt that their Middlesbrough store would lead to a North Eastern fast fit empire.
But that's exactly what happened for Netta Darcy, who set up a centre called Melbourne Motors in Middlesbrough with her husband Fred, whose legacy now shines brightly through the new £2 million HiQ centre in Leeds.
Melbourne Motors eventually changed its brand name to North Eastern Tyres and Exhausts in 1980, by which time, sons Ian, Ray and Tony had taken control of the family reigns.
In 1997, North Eastern Tyres opened its first flagship centre in York, followed by supersites in Newcastle and Knaresborough, continually pushing the standards of our retail offer. When the new £2 million HiQ store in Leeds officially opened recently, it capped a remarkable new chapter in the company's history which now boasts 350 staff and an annual turnover approaching £60 million. The company continues to maintain its family values whilst strengthening the Board of Directors and Senior Management Team, headed up by Managing Director Gavin Marshall.
At present, North Eastern owns 15 HiQ centres in the north east, pushing its retail offering to 23, as well as six wholesale distribution points.
North Eastern Tyres & Exhausts marketing manager Joanne Hooper said: "It was wonderful to see Netta at our HiQ Leeds opening.
"The centre is a perfect legacy to the Darcy family over the years and opens an exciting new chapter for the company."
